The main museum of Yamal will present findings of the ancient town Mangazeya

The exposition "Mangazeya: 400 years of the legend" will be opened on the 10th of December in the Museum-exhibition complex of Shemanovskiy. It is dedicated to researches of the unique archeological monument of the federal significance "The ancient settlement Mangazeya". It is situated in Krasnoselkoup district.

Mangazeya is the first Russian town in the Siberian Subarctic. It was founded in 1601 and stopped existing in 1672. During its short life the town had quick ups and downs, it left rich legacy for archeologists. The scientific organization "Northern archeology-1" under leadership of Gennady Vizgalov form Nefteyugansk conducts archeological work from 1999 to the present day. The exposition includes tens of thousands items: details of ships and constructions, clothes and footgear, items of everyday life and crafts and many other things. Sectors of the unique exhibition will tell about location of the monument, history of shipping, hunting and armaments, fishery, literacy, architecture, clothes, trade, religion, history of researching of the archeological monument and other aspects. The bigger part of the unique findings was given to funds of the regional museum. Now more than 5000 items are preserved in them. According to the information given to a correspondent of IA "Sever-Press" in the museum-exhibition complex, the expositional project "Mangazeya: 400 years of the legend" was organized on the state program "Basic directions of development of culture in the autonomous Okrug for 2014-2020". It will last till the 20th of January.
