The Northern Sea Route is a project of All-Russian significance

Now two serious projects join Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and Murmansk Oblast together. Nuclear-powered icebreakers of the company "Atomflot", which is located in Murmansk, are busy in the project "Yamal LNG". During two years they provide piloting of ships on delivery of cargoes to the port of Sabetta.

The second project is also connected with hydrocarbons – transportation of oil from Novoportovskoye field, which is developed by "Gazprom Neft". The first shipment of crude oil from there took place about a week ago. This work will become year-round, therefore, icebreakers of Atomflot will be required here as well. The Northern Sea Route can serve for export of extracted oil and gas. The route already showed its potential during the Great Patriotic War, as it is informed on the portal arctic-tv.ru. According to the words of the director general of Atomflot Vyacheslav Ruksha, not many people know that one fourth of lend-lease cargoes were delivered on the Northern Sea Route. Today absolutely new conditions are made for export and sale of hydrocarbon raw materials. They go by sea from Yamal to countries situated on water areas of the Atlantics and the Pacific Ocean. The representatives of the governments of Yamal and Murmansk Oblast are sure in prospects of the Northern Sea Route. They visited the icebreaker "Lenin". First of all, the Northern Sea Route will help to avoid depending on the pipe of the South Stream, having provided profitable direction of export of hydrocarbons.
