The project of development of Novoportovskoye field received the prestigious industry award
The project on development of the Arctic asset of “Gazprom Neft”, Novoportovskoye field, won the Excellence in Project Integration award, which is given annually at the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC). The award is given to a project with investments over 500 million dollars that demonstrated outstanding achievements at the industry level across the entire value creation chain: in project management, geology, drilling, engineering, construction, HSE and development of the region. “Gazprom Neft” became the first Russian company to receive this prestigious industry award, as the company’s press center informs.
“Novy Port” entered the three finalists for the IPTC award along with the Kaombo project on the ultra-deep (1950 meters deep) shelf of Angola from Total and one of the world’s first floating LNG-plants Satu from PETRONAS. In total, international experts evaluated 17 projects from 9 countries. The Arctic asset of “Gazprom Neft” received the highest mark from the professional community for its unique achievements in administration and management of the integrated oil and gas project.
“Development of Novoportovskoye field is a unique project, thanks to which oil from Yamal was for the first time shipped to Europe on the Northern Sea Route the whole year round. It allowed forming a large oil and gas cluster behind the Polar Circle of Russia. Today, in permafrost conditions we successfully develop complex multi-component oil and gas reserves, apply advanced technologies, and on the basis of created digital models of the asset we perform calculations and take the most effective decisions. The high assessment from the world industry community proves that our company remains at the forefront of technological development and is ready to develop the most complex projects, including in the Arctic”, said Vadim Yakovlev, the deputy director general for exploration and production of “Gazprom Neft”.
Novoportovskoye field is one of the largest oil, gas, condensate fields being developed on the Yamal Peninsula. It is located behind the Polar Circle, far from transport pipeline infrastructure. The recoverable reserves of categories B1 and B2 make more than 250 million tonnes of oil and condensate and more than 320 milliard cubic meters of gas (with consideration of Paleozoic deposits). Oil from Novoportovskoye by its properties belongs to the category of light, with low sulfur content (about 0.1%).
“The Arctic is a region of discoveries and pioneers even in the modern world. Fulfillment of projects in the Far North requires constant readiness for challenges and search for non-standard solutions. “Novy Port” is a complex and interesting project, where we managed to introduce unique technologies in severe climate conditions, to create project teams, whose experience is replicated in the company’s perimeter and beyond. This is probably why our project has confidently become a leader and won the first place of the prestigious international award”, said Aleksey Ovechkin, the director general of “Gazpromneft-Yamal”.
