The monograph “Born Under The Polar Star. The Password – Northerners” was published in Yamal. The head scientific researcher of the scientific center for study of the Arctic, doctor of philological sciences Natalia Tsymbalistenko is its author.

The aim of the research is to describe the most prominent art-works by famous authors of Yamal: Ivan Istomin, Anna Nerkagi, Nina Yadne, Roman Rugin, Zinaida Longortova, Gennady Kelchin, Albert Okotetto. Also the book gives the general characteristics of development of literatures of indigenous ethnic groups in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, opens specifics of this process and problems of both separate artistic texts and literature of Western Siberia on the whole. Natalia Tsymbalistenko notes that, unfortunately, creative work of Leonid Laptsuy and Yelena Susoy is not described here, but the author is preparing a separate research about these talented Nenets writers. The monograph analyzes researches of foreign scientists and essayists, who present an alternative view on problems of the North, and they are not translated into Russian. This is the research about creative work of Anna Nerkagy by a French literature scientist Dominique Normand de Chambourg “Un recit Nenets d’A. Nercagi”, the work by a French researcher Carine Puigrenier “L’oeuvre de Roman Rouguine. La Terre enchantee: La litterature au reveil de la conscience nationale Khanty” about creative work of Roman Rugin. The monograph also scrutinizes the album by a French photographer Stephane Peyron with an essay about modern problems of nomadic Nenets people and also articles by Finnish scientists and politicians dedicated to problems of indigenous peoples of the Russian North. As Natalia Tsymbalistenko notes, of course, essay-type and artistic literature can not give absolutely objective and all-sided answers to all set questions. But exactly writers and journalists often mark crucial issues of time and give subjective but often prophetic assessments of reality much earlier than historians and scientists do, as she says.
