The scientific conference "POLAR-2014" was opened in Salekhard

The international scientific and practical conference "Polar geophysics of Yamal" was opened in Salekhard on the 14th of April.

The conference is organized by the Institute of Earth magnetism, ionosphere and radiowaves propagation named after Nikolay Pushkov and the geophysical center of the RAS, the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute and the Institute of applied geophysics n.a. Fyodorov at support of the government of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. As it is declared by the director of the department of international and external economic relations of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Alexander Mazharov on the opening of the conference, in conditions, when high-technological production is advanced actively to the Far North, use of modern information systems and databases in development of oil and gas fields, electromagnetic sounding in high latitudes, use of technologies of satellite communication are important. It is pleasant that scientists and industrialists of the whole world understand importance of this issue. More than 50 leading scientists of Russia, Ukraine, the USA, Denmark, Hungary and Taiwan are participating in the conference. Yamal is being represented by specialists of the scientific center for exploration of the Arctic and the regional technological park. Besides, representatives of fuel and energy companies arrived – Gazprom, VNIIGAZ, "Yamal LNG", "Gazprom dobycha Yamburg", "Gazprom dobycha Urengoy", "Gazprom dobycha Noyabrsk" and "Gazprom dobycha Nadym". During three days the participants of the forum will discuss applied aspects in researches of physics of polar sub-storms and polar lights, databases on geophysical grounds and observatories, methods of electro-magnetic sounding in high latitudes and influence of cosmic weather on technological systems. The program of the forum foresees master-classes on study of geophysical devices. The public scientific and educational lecture about cosmic weather is planned for the participants of the conference.
