The specialization “reindeer herder – mechanizer” was presented at the All-Russian educational forum

The director of Yamal polar agro-economic technical school Vadim Osipov participated in the VII Petersburg international forum of vocational education and the XIV All-Russian conference on problems and prospects of development of secondary and vocational education in Russia.

At the prestige venue the head of the oldest educational organization of Yamal told about specifics of education of personnel for agro-industrial complex in the Arctic. In particular, he told about basic achievements of students of Yamal in 2018. Future veterinarians participated and reached the final of the National championship “Young professionals” WorldSkills Russia. Six students successfully performed in the IV scientific and practical conference “My first step to science” that took place in March in Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, and 2 representatives of Yamal brought home diplomas of the 1st and the 2nd degrees.

Every year future technologists compete in one row with grownup specialists at the regional contest of professional skills “The best fish-processing operator”. Till the end of the year it is planned to open the working specialization “reindeer herder – mechanizer”. Educational programs have been already developed, necessary equipment has been purchased, and the main thing is that there are people, who wish to study. For the aim to find them the representatives of the technical school went around districts of the region in order to study demand on this specific profession. In addition, in November the technical school plans to accept guests from the University of the Arctic at the international educational seminar, as the press service of the governor of Yamal informs.

According to the head of the educational organization, the technical school was founded in 1935 as reindeer-herding with only one specialization – “zootechnics” (animal science); the department of veterinary medicine was opened in 1944.

Today education is conducted on 5 specializations in demand: veterinary medicine, economics and accounting, land and property relations, law and organization of social security, processing of aquatic biological resources. At that the “fishing” direction appeared in the educational organization comparatively recently – in 2002. Future technologists study on the complicated educational program. Refrigerating engineering, technology of fish products, technical mechanics, commercial ichthyology, four types of chemistry - this is only a small number of disciplines being studied by students.

Since 2011 the educational organization has become a member of the University of the Arctic, the international network of universities, colleges, scientific and research institutions, organizations working in the sphere of education and research activity in the circumpolar North.

The percentage of employment of graduates from the technical school on specializations is traditionally high. On more than 90% reindeer-herding brigades of the region are completed with zoo-veterinary specialists educated in the educational organization. Three graduates from the technical school were awarded with the honorary title “The honored veterinarian of the Russian Federation”.
