The thermal power station "Polyarnaya" will become the energy center of the Northern Latitudinal Route

The government of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug plans to give state guarantees for fulfillment of the project on building of the thermal power station "Polyarnaya".

This information was given by the director of the department on tariff policy, energy, housing and communal complex of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Mikhail Gilyov in Salekhard to journalists.

In his opinion, the station will be included to the project "Northern transit", which is being developed by power engineers to provide needs of the Northern Latitudinal Route. The program includes connection of Vorkuta, Salekhard, Noviy Urengoy and Norilsk to the unified network and electrification of Yamalskiy and Tazovskiy districts and Ural region. The thermal power station "Polyarnaya" will become the key hub of loads in this system. The project of the Northern Latitudinal Route is strategic in plans of development of Yamal. The railroad line will allow delivering liquefied natural gas to countries of Europe and Asia, will provide transport stream owing to transportation of other cargoes. Development of the Northern Latitudinal Route will require for bigger amount of energy than Yamal can give today, and the "Polyarnaya" will compensate the difference. Besides, the station will assist to energy independence of the region. After startup of the power station "Polyarnaya" in full capacity the need of Yamal in electricity on 70 percent will be provided due to own sources, at that, by more technological, cost-effective and ecologically pure methods of all accessible ones, as Mikhail Gilyov says.
