There are no analogues. The ambassadors of Russia abroad learnt all about “Kara Sea Expeditions”
The patriotic project of Yamal “Kara Sea Expeditions” was presented to the delegation of the ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation on the 23rd of July in Salekhard.
The public head of the project Sergey Shulinin told the tragic story of the convoy “White Sea - Dikson 5”, which had happened on the 12th of August of 1944 near the coast of the Kara Sea, 60 miles away from Beliy Island. Also he told about expeditions of volunteer groups to Beliy Island of the Kara Sea, search for burial places of deceased participants of the sea convoy “White Sea - Dikson 5” attacked and drowned by a German submarine in 1944, about establishing of the memorial complex in memory of the tragic events on the arctic borders of Russia. According to Sergey Shulinin, installing of the memorial bell tower “Bells of memory” in the chapel of Beliy Island was one of the most exciting events of the project. In addition, as a result of this work, it was possible to restore information about 47 participants of the convoy “White Sea - Dikson 5”, who had died tragically in the Kara Sea. Memorial events were organized on the place of death of the Soviet ships, and commemorative plaques were installed on their hulls. Also exact places of death of the steamships “Alexander Sibiryakov” and “Marina Raskova” were registered, and the following items were lifted up – a ship bell, a large-caliber anti-aircraft machine gun of “Browning” model (USA) with cartridges to it and a large-caliber anti-aircraft machine gun of DShK model of 1941. The deputy governor of Yamal Alexander Mazharov notes that the project “Kara Sea Expeditions” went far beyond the Russian Federation. “This unique project is fulfilled on the initiative of the government of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. “Kara Sea Expeditions” have no analogues”, he said.
