Three icebreakers of Rosmorport are providing support of ships on water areas of the Gulf of Ob in the Kara Sea

Three diesel-electric icebreakers of the enterprise “Rosmorport” are operating in the Gulf of Ob in the Kara Sea.

Icebreaking support on water areas of the seaport of Sabetta are being fulfilled by the icebreakers “Tor” and “Moskva”. Since last December they have supported more than 100 ships. The icebreakers are servicing the ice channel, supporting cargo ships to berths of the seaport and back and also delivering marine pilots to vessels. Cargo traffic on the Northern Sea Route increases, the need for services of the icebreaker fleet increases together with it. Since the first of April the additional new icebreaker “Vladivostok” has been attracted to work on the approach to the sea port of Sabetta, according to the request of “Yamal LNG”. The tasks of the vessel include icebreaking support on the area from the point of formation of a caravan in the district of Cape Zhelaniya to the border of water areas of the seaport of Sabetta and back, as the press center of Rosmorport informs. During the first days of the month the icebreaker “Vladivostok” has already provided support for three vessels. Conditions of ice navigation in the area of work are assessed as medium; the thickness of the ice reaches 90 - 110 centimeters. The diesel-electric icebreakers of Rosmorport were designed with use of advanced technologies and are able to overcome ice with the thickness of up to 1.5 meters.
