To the east and to the west. LNG from Sabetta will go in both directions of the Northern Sea Route
Infrastructure of the port of Sabetta will allow sending gas on the Northern Sea Route both in western and eastern directions, the first stage of transshipment bases will be opened in 2022. This information was given by the head of the department of LNG projects of NOVATEK Maksim Minin.
The port of Sabetta is a key element of transport infrastructure of the first project of NOVATEK on liquefying of gas “Yamal LNG”.
“As for two transshipment bases, they will be in Murmansk and Kamchatka. The task of these two complexes is completely to provide cargo traffic, ship traffic. The complexes are identical enough, respectively, today we are considering variants for sending both to the west and to the east, in other words, use of the Northern Sea Route completely is the same both towards the western and the eastern parts”, Maksim Minin said.
As he adds, first of all, it is planned to build one complex by 2022, as TASS reports.
“The capacity of Sabetta was 16 million 500 thousand tonnes per year, but due to the fact that it is planned to launch the fourth line (of the plant “Yamal LNG”) next year together with the third, the capacity will be increased up to 17 million 400 thousand tonnes”, Maksim Minin said.
The project “Yamal LNG” supposes the startup of three technological stages on production of LNG with the capacity about 5 million 500 thousand tonnes each per year. The first and the second stages of the plant were input to operation, the company planned to launch the third before the end of this year. It is expected to open the fourth stage with the capacity 900 thousand tonnes of liquefied natural gas per year in 2019.
