Today’s release of fingerlings from Sobsky fish-farming plant will turn into fish catching in five years

The acting governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Dmitry Artyukhov visited Sobsky fish-farming plant in the settlement Kharp.

He considered that this year production workers together with scientists had brought technology of fish reproduction to perfection at the only such enterprise in Western Siberia. As Dmitry Artyukhov noted, the company began systematic, constant release of fingerlings, he thanked the collective for the responsible approach and substantial assistance to Yamal. “The work on restoration of aquatic biological resources will be continued”, as the acting governor assured. The director general of Sobsky fish-farming plant Danil Eltekov explains that now the enterprise is forming the broodstock of whitefish (muksun). It has already 16 thousand spawners. Next year the first fish eggs are expected from them to be laid for incubation. It took a lot of efforts to set up the equipment. Sobsky fish-farming plant opened a new season. On the 18th of June about 3 million and 500 thousand fingerlings of chir (broad whitefish) were released to the Ob River. The weight of each of them is less than half a gram. Even at the stage of fish eggs they were observed in the laboratory of the enterprise, genetic studies were carried out for full development. In parallel, legislators worked. “Now we are changing standards at the federal level for production of juvenile fish”, as the head of the region shared information. “According to today’s standards, only very small fingerlings can be released into rivers and water reservoirs. In northern conditions most of this population often becomes prey to predatory fish species or dies before they have time to adapt to the climate. We are fighting for our fingerlings to be released already grown a little, not less than 1.5 grams”. In the future the enterprise is planning to be busy with breeding of other species of salmon fish –nelma and taimen. Already this year a base for gathering of fish eggs will be created on the Sob River in Priuralskiy district as well as on the Khudosey River in Krasnoselkoup district. In the first case, arrangement of the base was taken over by Sobsky fish-farming plant, in the second – by the fishing enterprise “Alkor” in Krasnoselkoup district. As Danil Eltekov says, seven months are needed from laying eggs to hatching. And two more months are necessary to grow fish up to the desired size. This is a very laborious process. According to him, as a result, fingerlings released last week went to the estuary. There they will become spawners, and then will begin the ascent to spawning grounds – the rivers Sob, Synya and others. The real result of this release will become visible only after about five years, when there will be so-called commercial fish return. All this time fish reproduction will be continued.
