“The roadmap” for development of aquaculture (fish farming) till 2025 was approved in Yamal. In the future it will provide the need of indigenous population in valuable fish species through stocking of suitable reservoirs with fish and also involvement of tundra-dwellers in this process. It will also increase quotas for traditional fishing, will put on the flow and will return fish species, which are prohibited to catch, to the fishery.

It was announced on the 25th of May by the director of the department of agro-industrial complex, trade and foodstuff Victor Yugai at the conference, where issues of artificial reproduction of aquatic biological resources and development of aquaculture in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug were discussed. Owing to the activities being presented in “the roadmap” it will be possible to preserve and to stabilize stocks of valuable whitefish species in waters of the region and to meet the needs of indigenous population in this important product. According to the calculations and the forecasts of science, by 2028 there are preconditions to return to industrial catch of muksun, as the head of the department says. According to him, this year the Sobsky fish-farming plant plans to release about 40 million fingerlings into the natural environment. The project capacity of the plant makes 140 million fingerlings per year. The region is going to reach this figure by 2025. For this aim it needs to create the database on gathering of fish eggs on the territory, what will allow avoiding dependence of the plant from suppliers from other regions. Already this year a base for gathering of fish eggs will be created on the Sob River in Priuralskiy district as well as on the Khudosey River in Krasnoselkoup district. In the first case, arrangement of the base was taken over by Sobsky fish-farming plant, in the second – by the fishing enterprise “Alkor” in Krasnoselkoup district. Forming of own broodstocks is another important direction for development of artificial reproduction. The broodstock of muksun has been formed in Sobsky fish-farming plant, and next year it is planned to receive the first fish eggs for laying for incubation. In addition, till 2020 it is necessary to create broodstocks of whitefish species in industrial conditions and specially selected natural water reservoirs of Krasnoselkoup, Priuralskiy, Purovsky and Tazovskiy districts, which will become natural reservoirs for these valuable fish species. This work is an important part of scientific support of “the roadmap” for development of aquaculture. In the future, Sobsky fish-farming plant can become the center of the competence on development of aquaculture in the region. Also till the end of May it is planned to develop technical specification for construction of a fish-farming plant in the settlement Tazovskiy in order to organize reproduction of valuable fish species in the Taz basin, as Viktor Yugai notes.
