A deputy governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Alexander Mazharov told about activities planned for veterans from Yamal within the traditional "Trips of memory".

This year more than 100 people will participate in it. Among them there are veterans of the Great Patriotic War, workers of the home front, cadets and schoolchildren. The delegation of Yamal went to Moscow; from there they will make a trip around places of combat operations of the Great Patriotic War. They will visit Simferopol, Sevastopol, Saint Petersburg and other cities. The big excursion program is planned for the veterans. They will visit the big landing ship "Yamal", Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery and the Temple of Saint Nikolay in Sevastopol. As Alexander Mazharov notes, this is a very significant event, because there are very few participants of the Great Patriotic War and workers of the home front, who stayed alive. In spite of the fact that active military operations did not take place in Yamal, it is the duty to help those people, who participated in military operations, worked on the home front, and it was very hard. These activities are organized in order they would be able to communicate with other people, who endured the same hardships. As he underlines, such trips are important also for patriotic education of young people. The tradition of "Trips of memory" for people of Yamal to towns of Russia, countries of the CIS and far foreign countries has existed in the regions since 2007. About 300 people, including veterans of the war, participants and disabled veterans of the Great Patriotic War, former minor prisoners of concentration camps, workers of the home front, residents of the blockaded Leningrad and representatives of cadet movements, participated in such trips. The participants visited Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Brest, Kiev, Minsk, Kaliningrad and Sevastopol.
