Vladimir Putin and Dmitriy Rogozin discussed icebreakers for Yamal

The head of the state Vladimir Putin discussed icebreakers-leaders with Deputy Prime Minister Dmitriy Rogozin on the conference with the government in the Kremlin.

Dmitriy Rogozin told about his participation in the start of building of the first serial icebreaker with the capacity in 600 megawatt on Baltiysky Zavod (the Baltic Shipyard). As he informs, at the present time five nuclear-powered icebreakers work on lines of the Northern Sea Route, but their resource is expiring. A row of icebreakers should be withdrawn from operation in 2017 and 2018. As Dmitriy Rogozin informs, the lead icebreaker will be ready till 2017, and that one, building of which was started on these days, will be ready till 2019. As "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" informs, Deputy Prime Minister told the President about work on creation of the icebreaker-leader, which is two times more powerful – from 110 to 130 megawatt. As he underlines, it can provide piloting of caravans of ships, the vessel can be with the deadweight not less than 200 thousand tons. At that, it can overcome ice with the thickness more than four meters. As Dmitriy Rogozin notes, all kinds of work on creation of the icebreaking fleet of Russia, its revival are closely connected with the plans on providing national security in the Arctic region, with socioeconomic documents.
