Vogue published photos of Nenets yagushka and felted bags by craftswomen from Yamal

Photos of the works by seven designers from Yamal, the participants of the regional project “Yamal – the center of arctic fashion” from Tazovskiy district, the towns Gubkinskiy, Salekhard and Labytnangi were published on the website of the magazine Vogue in the section “Talents”.

These are handmade embellishments in the North theme, accessories and traditional Nenets women’s coats “yagushka” in combination with felted bags in modern interpretation. The famous Italian photographer Marco D’Amico used the works by the designers from Yamal in his photo-session.

According to one of the finalists of the contest, a participant of the project and the photo-session Larisa Bazanova, this is very unusual and good experience. “My work is in the world-class fashion magazine. I didn’t even dream about it. That’s twice as nice. When I participated in the project “Yamal – the center of arctic fashion”, I did not seek to take any leading positions. The main desire, which was then, is to try my hand and to show my work to fellow countrymen. Naturally, assessment from colleagues and experts of the fashion industry was important. And if it was so high, to say the world’s one – it is great. This is an impulse for further development and new achievements”.

The organizers note that participation of the works by the craftswomen from Yamal in the photo-session of the photographer of such level is certainly a great breakthrough and success. The photographer and the director Marco D’Amico is widely known in circles of show-business and world fashion. He has repeatedly become the author of modern “icons”. It is expected that participation in the regional project “Yamal – the center of arctic fashion” and such publications will be the good start for the designers from the Far North in conquering of not only the arctic fashion podium, but also the world’s one.

As we should remind, the contest-festival of young designers “Yamal – the center of arctic fashion” took place in December of 2018 in Salekhard. 18 designers from Yamal reached the final. They presented their capsule collections at the final fashion show. In addition to preparation to the show during two months the finalists passed through intensive online-education on history of fashion, promotion of business, relevant trends of the world fashion industry. The international team worked on the project. The specialists from Italy helped the designers from Yamal to get acquainted to leading technologies of European fashion.
