Vyborg Shipyard and Atomflot will build an icebreaker for the project "Yamal LNG"
Vyborg Shipyard and Atomflot signed the contract for building of the port icebreaker for the project "Yamal LNG".
The diesel port icebreaker with capacity in about 10 megawatt, with innovative propulsion system will be built on Vyborg Shipyard for work in the port of Sabetta on the project "Yamal LNG". The planned term of delivery is November of 2018. Atomflot will be the owner and operator of the ship. Last November the joint-stock company "Yamal LNG" and Atomflot concluded the contract for rendering of services on complex towing and icebreaking support of vessels in the port of Sabetta till the 31st of December of 2040. The new icebreaker will replace the icebreaker that works at the present time. The new one will provide navigation of LNG-tankers on the approach channel and water area of the port of Sabetta. The ship will be able effectively to work in ice both with a stern and a snout, to maneuver and to fulfill special tasks, as the press-service of "Yamal LNG" informs. The company "Yamal LNG" fulfills the project on building of the plant on liquefying of natural gas with capacity 16 million and 500 thousand tons of LNG per year on resource base of the South-Tambey field. The beginning of LNG production is planned for 2017. The shareholders are: NOVATEK (60%), Total (20%) and CNPC (20%). Transport infrastructure that includes the sea port and the airport of Sabetta is being created within fulfillment of the project. The international port of Sabetta is being built on principles of governmental-private partnership in two stages: preparatory and basic. Cargo berths for receiving construction and technological goods for the LNG plant have been already built. Year-round navigation has been organized since October of 2013. Ice-protective structures and berths for transshipment of liquefied natural gas and gas condensate are being built within the basic stage.
