Yamal is making suggestions and initiatives on protection of rights of indigenous peoples of the North

Generalizing experience of work in the sphere of protection of rights and interests of indigenous peoples, Yamal suggested the Ministry for culture of the Russian Federation initiating elaboration of the state program, which would foresee the complex of measures directed to socioeconomic development of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation.

Besides, the region is an initiator of bringing in changes and additions to some federal laws, which this or that way regulate life activity of indigenous peoples. The talk about these issues took place within the working session on providing of rights of indigenous ethnic minorities of the Russian Federation. It was conducted by the vice-governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Irina Sokolova and the deputy minister for culture of Russia Alexander Zhuravsky. In particular, Yamal presents an initiative of registration on a place of residence for a citizen of the Russian Federation, who conducts nomadic or semi-nomadic way of life. Also it is suggested supplementing powers of subjects of the Russian Federation on delivery of a document that confirms belonging of a citizen to indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East. Besides, in the opinion of lawyers of Yamal, it needs to regulate issues of conducting of statistical monitoring towards citizens belonging to indigenous peoples. Specialists in Yamal are sure that it is necessary to adopt the federal law about northern reindeer husbandry, which will allow strengthening guarantees and measures of support for indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East. As the press-service of the governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug informs, the protocol, which will include all the suggestions and initiatives presented within the meeting, will be prepared by the results of the conference. The document will be sent to the deputy chairperson of the government of the Russian Federation Alexander Khloponin, to the Ministry for culture of the Russian Federation and to other interested structures.
