Dmitry Artyukhov made a report to Sergey Lavrov on work with compatriots

The acting governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Dmitry Artyukhov spoke at the sitting of the governmental commission on affairs of compatriots abroad. It took place in the Russian Ministry for foreign affairs under the chairmanship of Sergey Lavrov.

In the report Dmitry Artyukhov notes that Yamal maintains contacts with representatives of more than 50 countries of the world. And the special system of cooperation based on long-term projects that are the example of “people’s diplomacy” was built with consideration of needs of the Autonomous Okrug. “We consider that support of children’s and youth movement is the most important factor of consolidation. This is our priority in work with our compatriots”, as he underlined. Dmitry Artyukhov presented several patriotic events as the example of work with Russian-speaking youth abroad, they are dedicated to the Victory in the Great Patriotic War: “Our History is our Victory!”, “The Banner of Victory: Yamal to compatriots”, “The Tricolor around the World” and others. During three years representatives of 12 countries - from Argentina to Finland - received copies of the Great Banner of Victory and marched under them in processions of the Immortal Regiment abroad. The head of the region also marks successful projects in the sphere of international volunteering. Ecological initiatives in Yamal are the basis for interaction with young compatriots around the world. During five years of ecological activities on Beliy Island 150 volunteers from 17 regions of Russia and seven near and far foreign countries - Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Israel, China, Ukraine and Chile – participated in the project. This year young people from Kazakhstan are going to Vilkitsky Island. Speaking about cooperation with concrete countries, the acting governor specially underlined interaction with Bulgaria, where this year Yamal would conduct the forum for Russian-speaking youth “We are for peace in the whole world!” for the tenth time. “We are aimed not so much at mass work with young people but at direct contacts between activists from our region and compatriots abroad. We work point-by-point, and subsequently participants of our projects remain friends of Yamal for life”, as he said. According to Dmitry Artyukhov, this December the region will host the international circumpolar media congress “Arctic Media World”. Journalists and employees of press-services from eight Arctic states and observer-countries, including Russian-speaking foreign media, are planning to participate in it. The head of Yamal also spoke on the initiative to conduct the joint major international event of the federal level on the territory of the arctic region for compatriots, who reside abroad, as the press service of the governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug informs. It should be noted that the agenda of the sitting of the governmental commission also included issues of preparation for the VI World Congress and the IV World youth forum of Russian compatriots in Bulgaria, the results of analysis of state monitoring in the sphere of relations with compatriots were summed up. As we should remind, the decision to include the issue on consideration of international activity of Yamal on the line of compatriots as illustrative was taken on the recommendation of the Federation Council on the results of the Yamal Days conducted from the 2nd to the 12th of November in 2017.
