Enthusiasts from Yamal raised the Banner of the Victory to the height of more than one thousand meters
A group of enthusiasts from Yamal raised the Banner of the Victory to the top of 1333.8 meters. Thus they marked the Victory Day. As the members of the group admit, this holiday is sacred for every family. Therefore, it was decided to make the run to the top of the Mount Khanmey to hoist the Banner.
“Victory Day is our most important family holiday. All grandfathers in our big family fought in the war. Two of them did not come back. One considered missing during long time, the other died on the last day of the war in Berlin. It was possible to learn the place of death of grandfather only in 2012. He died already after the crossing of the Dnieper River in Cherkassy region. In celebration of the 9th of May we decided to raise the Banner of the Victory on the top of the Mount Khanmey. It is located about 80 kilometers from Salekhard in the mountains of the Polar Urals. The height of the peak is 1333.8 meters. Together with like-minded people we arranged the snowmobile run. We reached the top on foot and raised the Banner of the Victory. This flag had previously been in two expeditions being headed by Sergey Chizhik - on Vaygach and Konstantinov Kamen. Konstantinov Kamen is the northernmost point of the Ural Mountains and the Polar Urals. Now the Banner of the Victory is flying over the top of the Mount Khanmey”, as the participant of these events Zhanna Kosykh said.
