Fingerlings of the broad whitefish will be released to the wild from fish cages. A fish-farming plant is being built for next generations

On the 10th of September it is planned to release more than 250 thousand fingerlings of the broad whitefish (chir) to waters of the Taz River. For three months specialists of Sobsky fish-farming plant have been growing fish in a cage line. At the very initial stage of their “growing up” the fingerlings weighed no more than 1 gram.

The fish cage line of Sobsky fish-farming plant is located between the banks of the Taz River. 300 thousand chir fingerlings were transported here in June from the settlement Kharp, as TV Studio “Fact” informs. At that time the average weight of each individual was about half a gram, but today they are already grown-up and ready-to-release ten-gram individuals. As experts say, it makes no sense to keep fish in cages longer.

“The longer fish sits in cages, the more it gets used to artificial food, and then it will be worse to adapt to the natural environment”, said Alexander Kireyev, the head of the Taz site of Sobsky fish-farming plant.

Last year, as an experiment, the six-section cage line was installed on the Taz River. This year amounts were increased. The design capacity of the complex is 1 million 800 thousand individuals of whitefish species. While this is also an experiment, only a half of the number of the compartments is involved in work.

“This is already a sea option. In other words, it is designed for permanent year-round stay on the water. The volume of cages depends on the area and depth of the cage. It is measured in square and cubic meters. And the depth can be adjusted. Here the depth under the line is about 15 meters”, Alexander Kireyev added.

The fish eats on the schedule. Since the beginning of summer the amount of dry food has increased, fish farmers say. Today the total daily diet is about 60 kilograms.

“Feeding takes place every 2 hours in daylight, when the sun does not set. From about 5 o’clock in the morning until 7 o’clock in the evening”, a fish farmer of Sobsky fish-farming plant Vladislav Vozelov explains.

In general, according to the fish farmer, the temperature is comfortable for fish fingerlings. Oxygen is also normal, its indicator is about 9 milligrams per liter. Before 250 thousand chir fingerlings are released into waters of the Taz River, as in the previous year, the average weight will be determined, and the number of the fingerlings will be calculated. After 5-7 years they should return for spawning to the place of their growing up.

The foundation of buildings was prepared, and an administrative module is being installed on the territory of the future fish farming site.

“For Tazovskiy district construction of the fish-farming plant is important. In recent years a tendency of reducing of whitefish population was marked. Here it is necessary to fulfill complex work: construction of the plant, security measures, research of the Taz River for fish productivity. If the work is fulfilled in a complex, I think, it will have a great positive influence on the entire fishing industry in Tazovskiy district”, said Prokopiy Tesida, the deputy head of the administration of Tazovskiy district.

Construction is being fulfilled by a contractor from Noviy Urengoy. The end of the current year is the completion date of the building process.
