Irina Sokolova: Yamal is always glorified with not only its hydrocarbons but also with its ethnic culture

The sitting of the presidium of the All-Russian public movement "The Association of Finno-Ugric peoples of the Russian Federation" is taking place in Salekhard. Irina Sokolova, the vice-governor of Yamal, opened the action. As she notes, the decision about conducting of this meeting exactly in Yamal is justified.

Russia in general and Yamal in particular can and should spread their experience on protection of rights and interests, on preservation of original culture of indigenous peoples, as she says. The government of Yamal follows the main principle: development of the Arctic is possible at the condition of progressive socioeconomic development of peoples, who reside and work in these severe conditions. And the north of Yamal was always the treasury of not only hydrocarbons but also ethno-cultural values, colossal experience of alteration of this severe land to comfortable territory for life and work, as she underlines. The chairperson of the presidium of the Council of the All-Russian public movement "The Association of Finno-Ugric peoples of the Russian Federation" Pyotr Tultayev informs that it was planned to conduct work of the association in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug long ago. As he notes, such working meetings of the association are conducted not less than 4 times per year in different regions of the country. All the issues being solved by the association are clear for many people – these are issues of wellbeing of languages of Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic peoples, preservation of culture and traditions. There are many problems, and they are not easy, however, it is no need to say that everything is bad. There is much good and kind, and it needs to use experience, to study and to inculcate it. It is known that during the latest years Yamal accumulated very interesting and positive experience in preservation of languages of indigenous peoples of the North, and not only in preservation but also in development of languages, their teaching, and this is the basis of bases. While the language lives, the nation lives, as he says. As we should remind, the sitting of the presidium of the All-Russian public movement "The Association of Finno-Ugric peoples of the Russian Federation" is taking place with participation of the government of Yamal, specialized departments, educational institutions, public organizations. They are discussing issues of support of ethno-cultural originality of Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic peoples residing in the region and also the plan of work of the association for this year. The program also foresees conducting of the round table "About experience of book publishing of Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic literature in Russia", the presentation of Finno-Ugric literature to the funds of the National library of Yamal, as the press-service of the governor of Yamal informs. As we should remind, among the participants of the activity there are representatives of the Ministry for culture of the Russian Federation and executive bodies of the state power of the Republics of Mariy El, Mordovia, Karelia, Komi, Udmurtia, Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Perm Krai, Kirov Oblast, deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
