The exhibition “40 000 years at the edge of oecumene” from funds of Yamal-Nenets regional Museum and Exhibition complex of Shemanovskiy was opened in the Museum of nature at Novosibirsk State Museum of Local History and Nature.

The baby mammoth Lyuba is the main exhibit. It was found in 2007 by local inhabitants in tundra on the bank of the Yuribey River. In spite of 42 thousand years of being in permafrost, the baby mammoth’s body was kept almost ideally. Many paleontologists consider that this is the most interesting and the most significant find during 300-year history of study of mammoths. Lyuba is a real “window” to the Ice Age, as it is informed on the website of the museum. Russian and foreign scientists in details studied the baby mammoth and made a row of important scientific discoveries. It is possible to learn about them within the exhibition. It will last till the 10th of January of 2019.

The baby mammoth Lyuba is known in the whole world. Films, reports, scientific articles are dedicated to it. The unique mummy of the Ice Age was presented at exhibitions in a row of large towns of Russia, also in Great Britain, Germany, China, the USA, Japan and Australia.

The exhibition is telling not only about the Ice Age and the unique find but also about natural riches, peoples and cultural-historical heritage of Yamal. The exposition allows following history of development of the severe northern land by human from the Stone Age to our days, getting acquainted to culture of indigenous peoples of the Far North through items of everyday life. It is presenting different archeological finds. The collection of artistic items made of silver and bronze of the Middle Ages is of special value.

The exhibition “40 000 years at the edge of oecumene” is supplemented with exhibits from funds of Novosibirsk Museum of Local History and Nature.
