Medical students of Yamal are being rapidly trained to struggle against the coronavirus

Medical students of colleges in Yamal are preparing to join the ranks of employees in hospitals. The epidemiological situation is such that their skills may soon be required in treatment of residents of Yamal. By the decision of the working group of the state council on prevention from the spread of the new coronavirus infection caused by 2019-NCOV, it was decided to accelerate training of the medical students in graduate groups.

To ensure that the students in Yamal are fully prepared for COVID-19, they were taught the special course on the coronavirus infection.

“During the lectures the teachers explained issues of etiology, epidemiology, features of the clinical picture of the new virus, its diagnosis and treatment. Attention was paid to psychological aspects of working with patients infected with the virus, and if there is a need for medical institutions in the region, the young people are ready to help”, said Tamara Tokmantseva, the deputy director of Yamal Multidisciplinary College.

The curriculum in Yamal Multidisciplinary College was adjusted in connection with the epidemiological situation. The students are already being prepared for graduation. The young people are working out practical skills for accreditation of medium-grade medical personnel, these days they pass the pre-defense of final qualifying papers.

They are training practical skills in a special room, where strictly no more than two people can come. The room is deployed on the basis of a dormitory. The pre-defense of final qualifying papers is fulfilled in the distance mode, via videoconferencing. Some of the students stayed in the dormitory, but majority of them make a call from home.

“We warned the young people before the pre-defense about the necessity to prepare for it thoroughly. Starting next week, the students will be sent to practice in medical institutions of the region”, said Natalia Kazantseva, the deputy director of Yamal Multidisciplinary College for educational and methodological work.

Yamal Multidisciplinary College will graduate 86 specialists in the sphere of nursing, medical care and midwifery at the end of this academic year. In total 209 graduates are preparing to join the ranks of medical employees in the region this year.
