The Arctic expedition of the nuclear-powered icebreaker "Yamal" will study ice on thirty-six stations
The expedition of the nuclear-powered icebreaker "Yamal" was started successfully. Representatives of the Arctic and Antarctic research institute are satisfied with the course of collecting of data. This information was given by the head of the expedition of the institute Andrey Tyuryakov from the board of the icebreaker "Yamal".
Within the expedition it is planned to study 36 ice stations, study of 4 of them will last two days each, others – during 1 day each. The weather allows using the whole ultra-modern equipment. The specialists managed to use an unmanned flying device during several days in a row. An underwater controlled device is being actively used. It is purposed for measuring of an underwater part of hummocky formations. With its help it is possible to study hummocks with accuracy up to one centimeter. The first analysis of the received data will be done already before the moment of return to Murmansk – till the beginning of June. And the more detailed report will be presented to the company-customer in September. As it is reminded on the website severpost.ru, the researchers study geological characteristics, temperature, saltiness of water and many other parameters every day.
