“To the North”. The expedition of the Russian Geographical Society will collect folklore of ethnic minorities

Four full members of the Russian Geographical Society attracted with traditions of northern peoples are leaving Noviy Urengoy for the expedition “To the North”.

The travelers will tell people of Russia and the world about beauty and uniqueness of northern nature, will present the most interesting geographical, natural and tourist objects and also will call to protect and preserve nature of arctic regions for descendants.

According to the head of the expedition Dmitry Zhdan, it is very important for the participants of the expedition that every inhabitant of other regions would know culture and life of the north and would understand how it is beautiful in the North and in the Arctic.

All non-indifferent people can follow the travel within the whole route – about 4000 kilometers. Photographs, video materials and text notes will be published in the online diary on the website of the expedition. According to the informational and analytical board under the administration of Noviy Urengoy, the travelers count to overcome the route during 50 days till the 20th of April.

Within the expedition they will also collect folklore of ethnic minorities of the North, will make 30 video materials about nature, settlements and people of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug.
