It is planned to remove about 700 tons of metal scrap from Beliy Island this year. This information was given by the first deputy director of the department of international and external economic relations of Yamal Sergey Uramayev to journalists.

As he notes, the basic amount of work on cleaning of the territory was fulfilled. Last year the participants of the ecological expedition completed cleaning of the territory of the Polar marine hydro-meteorological station n.a. Popov and the military unit. In August 20 volunteers at the age from 18 to 31 years old will start cleaning of the island from garbage. Basically the ecological expedition will include representatives of the company “LUKOIL”, Russian compatriots from abroad and the participants of the youth forum “UTRO”. As Sergey Uramayev explains, girls again are trying to become participants of the ecological mission on Beliy Island, but only men are included to the expedition because of severe conditions of the area. Criteria of selection are the same: a skill to work in a team, physical endurance, experience of work in ecological expeditions. Receiving of applications for participation is taking place now. According to his words, Beliy Island in the Kara Sea is the northernmost point of the region. It is divided from the Yamal peninsula with Malygin Strait. During 4 years 50 hectares of the land were cleaned, about 800 tons of metal scraps were collected and more than 300 were removed from the island. It is planned to complete work on Beliy Island next year. Besides, this year specialists will evaluate damage on Vilkitsky Island.
