In Salekhard on the briefing within the visiting intersessional sitting of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues the governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug told that the experience of Yamal could be useful to the international organization.

He answered questions of journalists. As he notes, the region has 50 years of experience in development of extractive fields and extraction of hydrocarbons. The governor admits that mistakes were made in the Soviet Union in the beginning of mass industrial development of the territory. Today ecological damage done during those times is being compensated. This fact is confirmed, for example, with programs on cleaning of islands of the arctic territory from accumulated industrial wastes. As the governor notes, the region works not in order to please the whole world but to search for harmony between industrial development and life of indigenous ethnic minorities. The whole world does not have any instructions on so how to fulfill this work. He says that in the process of dialogue the participants are elaborating this instruction. He expresses hope that it will be written once and be never broken. The governor thinks that modest 50-year experience of Yamal will be useful. The main pride of the region is in so that the number of indigenous population grows. People would not live on this territory, would not give birth to children and would not make large families if it was not comfortable. At that, Dmitriy Kobylkin marked responsibility of Yamal at such powerful industrial space before the whole circumpolar space of the planet. According to his words, in issues of ecology the region should not lock itself within the Russian Federation and experience only of domestic science. The region opens the platform for dialogue, as the governor says, willingly will attract the best global practices, including of Canada and the USA, in order development of extractive fields would not do any discomfort to population of the region and the whole circumpolar space.
