It successfully passed the state expertise. The airport of Noviy Urengoy will be able to take Boeing and An-124

The project of reconstruction of the airfield at the airport in Noviy Urengoy received the positive conclusion of GlavGosEkspertiza of Russia (Main Department of State Expertise). It is planned to reconstruct a runway, taxiways, an apron with organizing of 15 parking places.

In addition, it is planned to install airfield lighting equipment OVI-1 (high-intensity lighting system) from both landing directions, a drainage network with construction of treatment facilities, construction of a new main emergency and rescue station with 6 boxes, reconstruction of a patrol road and installation of technical means of perimeter fence protection. The process of reconstruction will last three years and will be completed in 2021.

The first stage of reconstruction planned for 2019-2020 includes construction work on the western part of the apron, which includes 5 parking places and one of the taxiways up to the border with the runway. The area of the part being reconstructed at the first stage will be more than 30 thousand square meters.

The second stage of reconstruction planned for 2020 includes work on the runway and the taxiways. It is planned to fulfill reconstruction of coatings through strengthening of the existing coating with asphalt concrete and strengthening of roadsides with the total area of more than 140 thousand square meters. Under the concession agreement between “UrengoyAeroInvest” and the administration of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug signed in March of 2018, reconstruction of the runway at the airport of Novy Urengoy should be completed till the end of 2020.

At the third, final stage, construction and assemblage will be fulfilled on the remaining part of the apron with the area about 55 thousand square meters, on four taxiways. The complex of agro-technical operations on greening of the surface on the area more than 31.5 hectares will be fulfilled after completion of construction of the airfield coverings and fulfillment of planning operations on unpaved parts.

All construction and assemblage operations will fulfilled in conditions of the existing airport, in “the window” between flights of aircrafts during 16 hours each. After reconstruction the airport of Noviy Urengoy will be able to take modern passenger aircrafts of Boeing 737-800 type and large transport aircrafts of An-124 type without limits. The information is given to the news agency “Sever-Press” in the press service of the airport of Noviy Urengoy.

At the moment the company “Airports of Regions” is conducting the contest selection of the general contractor for reconstruction of the airfield.

Modernization of the airport in Noviy Urengoy is the first project in Russia on development of airport infrastructure being fulfilled within the law on concession agreements. In parallel with operational management the holding “Airports of Regions” is developing project documentation for construction of the new passenger terminal and reconstruction of the airport.
