Representatives of Yamal will participate in the conference on preparation to the Arctic Winter Games

Representatives of Yamal will participate in the conference of the international committee of the Arctic Winter Games, which will take place in the town Nuuk (Sermersooq municipality, Greenland) from the 10th to the 12th of March.

The participants of the conference will discuss issues of organizing and conducting of the games in 2016. The team "Yamal" will be represented by the director of the regional department on physical culture and sport Alexander Eirikh and the chief of the office of international cooperation at the department of international and external economical relations of the region Yana Vrublevskaya. It is planned that the participants of the conference will approve the final decisions on available organizational issues. The representatives of the delegations will review places of conducting of the competitions, cultural activities and accommodation of teams. It is supposed to elaborate the scheme of transportation of teams, as the press-service of the governor of Yamal informs. Yamal has participated in the Arctic Winter Games since 2004, having replenished the sports treasury of Yamal with medals. The competitions have been conducted since 1970 in Canada and the USA each two years. Representatives of countries of the circumpolar region become their participants. Uniqueness of the winter games is in so that, in addition to popularization of almost 18 kinds of sport, attention is paid to preservation and development of traditional kinds of sport of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North: the arctic all-around and the Dene games (the note: the Dene are the Athabasca-speaking indigenous peoples in Canada). The next games will take place from the 6th to the 12th of March of 2016 in Nuuk. The team "Yamal" will participate in 6 kinds of sport: the arctic all-around, ski race, biathlon on ski and in snowshoes, running in snowshoes and table tennis.
