The winners of “Treasures of the North” are returning to Yamal, bending under the weight of the awards

The XIII international exhibition-fair “Treasures of the North. Craftsmen and Artists of Russia 2018” was finished on the 3rd of May in Moscow.

The annual festival held the extensive holiday program “Peoples of the North invite friends!”. Traditionally Yamal was represented by craftspeople of bone and wood carving, tailoring of traditional national clothes. Yamal folk artists participated in the contest program of the festival “Nomads of the North” and the fashion show of the festival “Polar style”. This year the exposition of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug was presented in the arctic coloring: snow, the winter choum (a nomadic tent made of reindeer hides and similar to a tepee), the reindeer and the narty – the nomadic sleigh surrounded with ice hummocks. This year the delegations from Tazovskiy district, Nadymskiy and Purovsky districts became the participants of the contest for the best housing of northern peoples and the contest of national cuisine. Craftspeople of carving became favorites, the folk program of the festival “Nomads of the North” was presented by the center for national cultures of Purovskiy district, solo performers of the regional center for national cultures. “We again became ones of the main winners” as the vice-president of the Association “Yamal is for descendants” Sergey Khudi shared his impressions with a correspondent of the news agency “Sever-Press”. “Yamal has the opportunity to present our peoples in all their glory, as everything depends on organizing of the project”. According to Sergey Khudi, he was interested not only in cultural and artistic projects but also in enlightenment roundtables with presentations from other regions, for example, Taimyr and Sakhalin. Especially he was interested in the unique exposition of the company “Sakhalin Energy” - one of the sponsors of “Treasures of the North”. It was curious how relations between indigenous ethnic minorities of the North and industrialists were developing in other regions. “In general, all regions performed powerfully, beautifully, presenting their traditions, cuisine, dwellings, languages”, as Sergey Khudi underlined. “And yet, in this exhibition it was possible not only to admire. Our community members were able to sell their products, and this is important”. Sergey Khudi notes that not all the representatives of the Autonomous Okrug, bending under the weight of awards, returned to their homeland yet. “Later they will provide more information about the winners and the participants”, he assured.
